VietHope President’s Letter Q1 2018

Hello VietHope friends,

2017 was a momentous year for our VietHope family: we celebrated our 15th year anniversary, expanded and strengthened our programs in Hue and Can Tho, and completed transitioning our operations in Vietnam to the next generation of leaders.

2017 moreover marked the end of our 3-year journey to build the foundation for the next chapter of VietHope:

  1. We established a formal leadership team in Vietnam, currently led by our Vietnam senior director/interim country representative (Dong Le) and director (Phuong Thanh Nguyen).
  2. We doubled the size of the Youth development program, and started and expanded the high-demand Youth workshop program for hundreds of students each month in Sai Gon and Can Tho.
  3. Our community of donors and supporters have gone stronger and stronger each year and donated on average 1.5 times more annually than previous years.

It has been an invaluable honor for me to work with and learn from many motivated VietHopers and VietHope supporters. With that, I am excited to announce important changes to VietHope’s leadership team. Please join me to welcome our new President, Viet Anh Tran, and Vice Presidents, Tien Nguyen and Minh Nguyen, who will be joining our current VP of Human resources, Hien Vuong.

I have no doubt that the new executive committee (EC) will confidently and successfully lead VietHope in the next chapter of our mission. They come from diverse professional backgrounds with a balanced mix of younger faces (Tien and Minh) and veterans (Viet Anh and Hien). This is the first time that every single member of the EC has visited Vietnam and met with the Vietnam team just in the past year. Moreover, VietHope’s incoming President, Viet Anh with years of professional management knowledge, experience and discipline, who has done a stellar job as Vice President in the past 3 years, is the perfect fit to lead the organization through this new chapter of growth.

Last but not least, I would like you all to join me congratulating our 2017 VietHoper of the Year award winner, Mary Duyen Nguyen. Mary have energized and inspired others through her tireless contributions, mature leadership and excellent mentorship. She is the life of our annual holiday parties, and the force behind many of our online fundraising initiatives!

The new executive committee will provide additional details about our 2018 plan and progress in the upcoming letters. Please feel free to connect with us directly if you have any feedback or questions at info@viethope.org. Thank you again for your continued support of VietHope, and have a happy Lunar New Year (Tết)!

Best,

Quang Duong
