Schools

School infrastructure projects include schools, libraries, and reading rooms. In the summer of 2003 VietHope built a two-classroom school in Nha Phan hamlet, Ca Mau province, 368 km south of Saigon, Vietnam. Nha Phan hamlet is the poorest hamlet in Cai Nuoc district, Ca Mau province, with 1,432 residents who subsist on rice farming and shrimp harvesting.
Nha Phan’s previous elementary school, built on a clay ground, had been in a disintegrated condition with a leaky thatched roof and crumbling walls. The building was prone to collapse during rain storms, disrupting the education of its 78 students from first to fourth grade, with two morning and two afternoon classes. VietHope built a new two-classroom school with brick walls and an iron sheet roof to ensure the safety of the children, and also provided one water-pumping well for sanitation.
