Questions about your
donations:
Can I donate by
credit card?
YES! VietHope accepts donations
via PayPal. You can
donate here.
Do I get tax
exemptions when I donate to VietHope?
YES! As VietHope is a 501(c)(3)
non-profit organization, your donations are tax deductible. When
you donate to us, you will receive a receipt acknowledging your
donation that can be used to tax-filing purposes.
How much of my
money actually goes to the children?
One hundred percent of your
sponsorship or general donation
money goes to the children or the projects, e.g. school and
library construction, that VietHope implements. We have
VietHope staffers in Vietnam working with local partner
organizations and the sponsored children.
How does
VietHope spend my monthly $10 sponsorship money?
All 10 dollars
goes directly to the education of your sponsored child. We
use only membership fees to cover administrative expenses.
What does
VietHope do with my one-time donation?
Unless you specify which
project(s) you wish the money to go, VietHope will put your
donation in a general fund for either the Scholarship Program or
other projects such as library and school construction. We
do not use any portion of your donation to cover our operational
expenses.
Can I specify
which project I want my money to go to?
Yes, and we will try to honor
that request. However, in the event that a project has
already been fully funded by the time your donation arrives, we
will ask for your permission to use your donation for other
projects.
How does
VietHope fund its operational expenses?
We use membership fees to cover
VietHope operational expenses. All directors, officers,
and staffers have to pay the annual $25 membership fees.
Many of our sponsors and donors also pay the membership fees
to become a member of VietHope and to help cover
operational expenses.
Can I see
VietHope's financial report?
Yes. You can access it
here.
Questions about VietHope
organization:
Do VietHope
staff get paid?
No. All directors and staff
members are volunteers. Despite our heavy academic and
professional commitments, we donate our time and energy because
we all strongly believe that together we can make a real
difference to improve the life of the people in Vietnam,
starting with needy children.
Who founded
VietHope?
The idea of starting an NGO to
aid needy schoolchildren in Vietnam first flashed in the minds
of Van Thi Huynh and Kim-Son
Nguyen on a
long bus ride from Harvard Square to Wellesley College on their
way to a Vietnamese reading club meeting in early 2002. Nam Tran Nguyen and Thai Hien
Nguyen joined Thi and Kim-Son for the first
brainstorming meeting, and VietHope was born. All the current
directors and staff members have established VietHope to what it
is today.
Where is
VietHope based?
VietHope is based in the Boston
area, officially recognized by the state of Massachusetts and
the US federal government. However, our staff members work
from many corners of the world. We communicate mostly
through email and teleconferencing.
Is VietHope
affiliated with Harvard University?
Even though all of the current
directors are or were Harvard students, VietHope is not
affliated with Harvard. We are an independent non-profit
organization.
